The bay scallop season in Gulf County started Friday.Listen to the story!
Until September 30th, anglers can harvest bay scallops in all state waters from the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County through the westernmost point of St. Vincent Island in Franklin County.
Some parts of Gulf County’s St. Joseph Bay are also open for the bay scallop season. But, other parts are closed.
Just south of Black’s Island,the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has buoys marking the area as off limits for swimming, boating, fishing, or scalloping.
That’s to give St. Joseph Bay more time to recover from the impacts of a fall 2015 red tide event.
