Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is under investigation by the Florida Bar. The Bar’s investigation follows a complaint after Gaetz tagged Michel Cohen in a tweet asking Cohen if his wife and father-in-law know about his “girlfriends.” Gaetz has since deleted the tweet but it raised concerns from many including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Some say Gaetz's tweet is a threat made to a federal witness. Gaetz says that is not how he intended it. In a statement Francine Walker, Director of Communications for the Florida Bar, says the Bar is aware of the tweet and has opened an investigation. The statement says when a complaint is made the Bar investigates to determine whether Bar rules have been broken. If so, the issue could go before the state Supreme Court which can issue a number of sanctions—including disbarring a lawyer, suspending them or reprimanding them.
