We Learn About UF's Thompson Earth Systems Institute

We'll meet Dr. Bruce MacFadden, he is the first director of theUniversity of Florida’s Thompson Earth Systems Institutewhich was launched Dr. MacFadden, a distinguished curator in vertebrate paleontology who has done work across the globe, directs the new institute in its effort to increase public knowledge on the earth’s natural systems. By using current research, the Thompson Earth Systems Institute aims to explain just how the systems work and how they interconnect.

The UF College of Liberal Arts will host an event called“Florida’s Gulf - Past, Present and Future”on Thursday, March 28 at the IMAG History and Science Center where a Thompson Earth Systems Institute fellow will speak. Dr. MacFadden joins us in the studio to give us a taste of how the institute employs research to help people learn about earth’s systems.

Julie Glenn is the host of Gulf Coast Live. She has been working in southwest Florida as a freelance writer since 2007, most recently as a regular columnist for the Naples Daily News. She began her broadcasting career in 1993 as a reporter/anchor/producer for a local CBS affiliate in Quincy, Illinois. After also working for the NBC affiliate, she decided to move to Parma, Italy where she earned her Master’s degree in communication from the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Her undergraduate degree in Mass Communication is from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Mike Kiniry is producer of Gulf Coast Live, and co-creator and host of the WGCU podcast Three Song Stories: Biography Through Music. He first joined the WGCU team in the summer of 2003 as an intern while studying Communication at Florida Gulf Coast University.
