A plea hearing for a former Tallahassee police officer has been delayed until July. Vincent Crump was twice tried on sexual battery charges and both ended in a mistrial. Crump was accused of raping a woman last February during a traffic stop.

His first trial ended when a jury couldn't reach a verdict; the second ended when a juror failed to show up for the second day of deliberations.

Now Crump’s attorney’s and state prosecutors were attempting to reach a plea deal, but during a hearing Monday morning, prosecutors told the judge the sides were still trying to reach an agreement.

The hearing will now be held on July 15th.

Crump and his attorney have maintained the sexual encounter with the victim, while unethical, was consensual.

The former TPD officer pulled over the car the woman was driving. In initial reports, he told the woman he smelled marijuana in the car but that he could make her a deal. The two drove to Dorothy B. Oven park where the first sexual encounter took place, and then to an office complex where the other occurred. Prosecutors argue that amounted to coercion.

A call was made to the consolidated dispatch agency following the encounter and TPD Chief Mike DeLeo announced Crump was fired in a press conference the next morning.
