Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday directed Florida’s new education commissioner to ignore a plan that would have made Duval and other districts ineligible for part of a $200 million pot.

A Tallahassee judge has ruled against Duval and five other school districts in their fight to require masks for students during the pandemic. The districts appealed the ruling immediately on Friday.

Duval, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties are the only Florida school districts holding onto districtwide mask mandates as COVID rates decline.
