9/10/2018: Irma's Impact On Jacksonville 1 Year Later; Heart Walk

One year later this partially damaged portion of the Northbank Riverwalk at Metropolitan Park still hasn't been repaired after taking a beating during Hurricane Irma.

On Monday’s First Coast Connect we took a look at Hurricane Irma, which was soaking Jacksonville one year ago today.

The city still hasn’t fully recovered from the storm.

Hope McMath, founder of Yellow House, is a local activist who joined us to discuss some of the challenges still remaining for homeowners living on Ken Knight Drive on Jacksonville’s Northside.

Advanced Disposal Vice President of Marketing Mark Nighbor joined us with a preview of this year’s Heart Walk and some good news: mortality rates from cardiovascular disease and stroke have dropped by 45 since the first annual event was held.

This year’s Heart Walk – which features three and one mile options – will be held Saturday at Metropolitan Park. It starts at 8 a.m.  | Additional Heart Walk information

WJCT Sports Analyst Cole Pepper joined us to discuss the Jaguars winning their first regular season game, beating the Giants 20 – 15, and setting themselves up for a big showdown Sunday against the Patriots at EverBank Field.
