Adult Human Remains Found During Search For Missing Toddler

News4Jax

Investigators searching for missing boy Lonzie Barton have found remains of an unknown person believed to have been dead for at least a year.

Our partners, News4Jax, report the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found the bones in a wooded area across from the Avenues Mall. Police believe they are likely the remains of a man, and they’re testing them against a missing-persons database.

At this point, investigators say foul play isn’t suspected.

Meanwhile, police are asking anyone who may have a tip leading to the recovery of Lonzie Barton to contact them. JSO Investigations Director Tom Hackney says the case is looking more and more like a murder investigation as time goes on.

The 1-year-old was reported missing early Friday morning. His mother’s boyfriend is the only named suspect in the case.
