Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams addresses the media after a mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing in August.

Next Friday, November 2, is the deadline for people to apply for a seat on the city’s new crime and safety task force.

The volunteer body will be charged with finding ways to coordinate programs and funding to make Jacksonville a safer place. Dozens of spots are available.

Membership will include local government and law enforcement leaders, as well as educators and representatives of Jacksonville’s faith, business and non-profit communities.

Applicants must commit to meet for several hours at least twice a week for two years.

The application form is available here.
