A proposed downtown Jacksonville hotel Thursday took another step toward becoming reality.
The Hotel Indigo won conceptual approval from the city’s Downtown Development Review Board.
If the project gets the final go-ahead, it will be situated on the corner of Laura and Bay streets. The hotel would have 90 rooms, a fitness center, and a rooftop bar and restaurant.
Building owner Eugene Profit said he always had Hotel Indigo in mind to redevelop the space near the Jacksonville Landing.
“The building size and there really wasn’t a boutique hotel in this market and so we did a little bit of research and we thought that it was a perfect fit for that building and that spot. You know, it’s adaptive reuse [of a] financial center. It’s going to be a great project we think,” he said.
The downtown location would be the 2nd Hotel Indigo for Jacksonville. Another in the chain is located in Deerwood Park on the Southside.
Profit, a former New England Patriots player, also owns a building at 220 Adams Street, which is being redeveloped as Florida State College at Jacksonville dorms.
