Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Make Menu Changes At Ballpark; Add Fresh Caught Mayport Shrimp

If you’re planning on taking in some games at the baseball grounds this season and you’re wondering what to eat at the ballpark, keep in mind: They’re not called the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp for nothing.

Last year, the new owner Ken Babby changed the name of the Class AA minor league team from the Suns to the Jumbo Shrimp.

And Thursday the team rolled out some of the new shrimp dishes on the menu.

The list includes “Boom Boom” popcorn shrimp in an edible waffle bowl, fried jumbo shrimp with coconut, shrimp and grits and jumbo shrimp cocktail.

Senior food and beverage manager Juanita Millhouse said many of the dishes will be made with fresh-caught shrimp that comes straight from Mayport.

While Millhouse declined to discuss the price of the new menu items, she did say the items will be priced low enough so families can afford to come to games.

The new season gets underway Wednesday, when the Jumbo Shrimp host the Chattanooga Lookouts at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
