Jacksonville Under-Sheriff Announces Battery Arrest Of Corrections Officer

JSO
Jacksonville Under-Sheriff Pat Ivey (pictured) announced the arrest of Officer William Libby Thursday.

A corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office faces felony charges for allegedly beating a 62-year-old man brought in for drunk driving.

JSO Under-Sheriff Pat Ivey said the DUI suspect was waiting to be checked by a nurse when Officer William Libby punched him in the face.

“Apparently the suspect, who would be the corrections officer, became agitated thinking that the victim was faking his level of intoxication because they had to push him in in a wheelchair.”

Ivey said the man suffered a broken nose.  Libby has been charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct.

“When he completed a report documenting what had occurred, it was not truthful, did not accurately reflect what had transpired,” Ivey said.

Libby had been with the department for 15 months.  Ivey says he was fired immediately because he was still within the job probation period.
