Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Brown is challenging incumbent Democratic state Senator Audrey Gibson.
Her district covers much of Duval County, including the city’s urban core, and parts of the Northside, Westside and Southside.
Brown filed to run on Friday and hasn’t raised any money, according to state elections records. Gibson has raised more than $138,000.
Gibson was tapped last year to become Senate Democratic leader, replacing Lake Worth Democrat Jeff Clemens, who resigned from the Senate after admitting to an extramarital affair with a lobbyist.
Reggie Brown was elected to the Jacksonville City Council in 2008 and re-elected in 2011. As Florida Politics reports, Brown says he’s running because he believes he can bring more state money to Northeast Florida.
The only other candidate in the race is a write-in.
