Some Clay Voters Receiving Misleading Text Messages About Ballots

With a little more than a week to go until Election Day, some Clay County voters are complaining to Elections Supervisor Chris Chambless about text messages they’re receiving.

Chambless said some receiving “messages such as—you need to return your vote by mail ballot. Your vote by mail ballot signature is important.”

Chambless said the texts he’s seen have come from both major political parties as well as from campaigns.

His biggest concern is the confusion some of the texts are causing that imply there’s a problem with people’s ballots.

“And that was one of the main reasons why we developed trackmyclayballot. Because individuals can verify their registration status as well as their vote-by-mail as it travels through the process from requested to counted.”

Chambless said voters seem primarily concerned over how someone they don’t know got their cell phone number.

He assures them they didn’t get them from the Supervisor of Elections Office.
