Star Trek Sets Open To The Public In Kingsland, Ga. This Weekend

STAGE 9 STUDIOS
Recreations of sets used in the original Star Trek series will be on display and open to the public this weekend in Kingsland, Ga.

Stage 9 Studios just up the road in Kingsland, Ga. invites Star Trek fans to boldly go where few have gone before.

The studio has been the home to fan film productions such as Star Trek Continues, Starhip Farragut and others.

It features full-scale reproductions of constitution-class starship sets from the original 1960s Star Trek TV series, all of which will be open to the public this weekend.

Production volunteer Dan Scanlan, who is also a reporter at The Florida Times-Union, helped build many of the sets.

“The latest edition — the warp core — which has a beautiful red-lit design to it, and engine room… and there’s a captain’s chair to sit in and get selfies done.  And I tell you, it’s so cool to watch other people’s reaction,” Scanlan said during Tuesday's First Coast Connect.

Stage 9 Studios is holding an open house where visitors can walk around the Star Trek sets, get fitted with pointy Vulcan ears and watch as the cast and crew of Dreadnought Dominion film a short vignette before a live audience.

The free Star Trek Fan Appreciation Weekend will be held inside the studios at 516 W. William Ave., Kingsland, Ga. 31548-4166. It starts Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday. Display hours and additional information is available on the Stage 9 Studios Facebook event page.
