First Coast Connect: McClure Says Congress Needs Fixing

Kevin Meerschaert

St. Johns County Commissioner and congressional candidate Bill McClure said Congress is broken and doesn’t need more career politicians to solve its problems.

Appearing Monday on First Coast Connect, McClure said he would  emphasize protecting the military instillations on the First Coast.

He brushed aside controversy over his involvement in a business called Medi MD, which Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation.

McClure denied allegations Medi MD is a “pill mill.”

He also said he’s self-funding his campaign so he won’t be beholden to special interests in Washington.

“We need a strong voice in Washington,” he sad. “I have a conservative record and decided to put my hat in the race.“

There are seven Republican candidates on the ballot and one Democrat in the race to replace the retiring Ander Crenshaw. The primary is set for Aug. 30. Early voting runs through Aug. 28.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
