Northeast Florida residents reacted Wednesday to Donald Trump’s presidential victory. Their calls flowed into “First Coast Connect” with both hope and fear in their voices.

More than 20 listeners called in during the hour-long show the morning after the election. Two back-to-back calls summed up opposite feelings.

Tim on the Westside said he’s a disabled veteran who voted for Trump.
“I’m sick and tired of being called a racist and everything else because I voted for Donald Trump,” he said. “I had to make a choice. It was a hard choice to make. But you know we need to come together. This is almost getting stupid. The man won fair and square. Let’s give him a chance.”

But Rebecca on the Southside was feeling disheartened after voting for Hillary Clinton.

“I’ve had a lot of my friends tell me not to take it so personally, but as a past victim of sexual assault, I feel like half my country just stood up and told me that what’s happened to me and so many other women in their past is something that’s OK to joke about,” she said.
