No Plans? No Problem! Things To Do This Weekend On The First Coast

It's a long weekend for many on the First Coast with a full slate of events, from parades to an evening with Captain Kirk.Friday, January 17 - Saturday, Jan. 18 — Actress Linda Purl (AKA Fonzie's fiancée to the over-40 crowd; Pam Beesly Halpert's mom/Michael Scott's lover to everyone else) stars in The Year of Magical Thinking, based on the award-winning Joan Didion memoir, at Theatre Jacksonville for three performances only. Saturday, January 18 — The St. Augustine Scavenger Hunt is Saturday from 12:30-3 p.m. What you will need: A cell phone with a camera and a comfortable pair of shoes. The day of the scavenger hunt we will meet at the northwest corner of the fort… outside, not inside the fort. A map of the area for and a list of items to be scavenged will be provided. There is small entry fee and cash prizes for top finishers.

Saturday, January 18 — William Shatner will "rock it, man" at The Florida Theatre at 8 p.m. for the 2014 edition of his "Shatner's World: We Just Live In It..." tour — doing whatever it is William Shatner does. Info and tickets at FloridaTheatre.com

Sunday, January 19 — It's Swamp Radio Live at the Florida Theatre. The theme for the Jan. 19 episode is “Moving Words,” which celebrates the verbal expressions, figures of speech and local vernacular that is unique to Northeast Florida.

A full cast of artist contributors are scheduled, which includes Irish storyteller Derek Coghlan, visual artist Barry Wilson, and Tidbits owner Clara LeBlanc. More info at SwampRadioJax.com and on Facebook.

Monday, January 20 — The city's annual Martin Luther King Day Parade is Monday at 10 a.m. The parade starts at the Federal Reserve Bank on Water Street and ends at EverBank Field. More info is at MLKFDNORG.com.
