Jacksonville Costume Business Continues To Grow Online

A Jacksonville costume business is growing by selling the outfits and other supplies for themed birthday parties.

Just Pretend Kids sells its Perfect Party in a Box online out of a warehouse located off Philips Highway.

The textile company Wyla has been based on the Southside of Jacksonville since 1994. Chief Operating Officer Charlene Walls says the company launched Just Pretend Kids 3 years ago.

“We were making private label costumes for some chain retailers and then we decided to launch our own brand,” she said.

While Wyla still makes costumes for other brands, Walls says Just Pretend Kids costumes are built to last longer.

“We decided that we wanted to make a deluxe brand,” she said. “We wanted something that kids could play in, that they could sleep in, could be washed and worn over and over again.”

Now, Just Pretend Kids is launching Perfect Party in a Box aimed at helping busy parents plan themed birthday parties.

“It’s the table cover, the invitations, the plates, the napkins, the cups, the decor as well as crafts and activities,” said Walls.

The box also includes a themed costume for the guest of honor.

Walls says Just Pretend Kids is gaining popularity in China and the Middle East. She also says Wyla is expanding business so much, the company is looking to lease or build another warehouse in Jacksonville.
