A local ship repair company has gotten a Navy contract, a major win for the company.

BAE Systems Southeast was awarded a $32.5 million contract for work at its operation in Mayport. The project involves repairs and alterations to the USS Farragut, a destroyer based at Mayport Naval Station.

The work is expected to be completed in January, but the contract has an option for another $1 million worth of work.

BAE has had a hard time lately, with a lack of work for the Navy leading to lay off more than 100 employees.
