Lawsuit Dropped As A Deal Reached For Early Voting At Gateway

A deal has been reached to ensure an early voting location will remain at the Gateway Town Center despite the relocation of the city's election center.

Local officials Tuesday announced that the lease agreement for a tax collector's branch at the center has been extended until March 30, 2021, at the same rent level as the previous agreement.

The location will be used as a customer service and community center that will offer voter registration and education and early voting.

The tax collector will consolidate services into the Yates Building in downtown Jacksonville.

The deal brings an end to the controversy over moving the Supervisor of Elections warehouse out of Gateway Town Center earlier this year into a building at One Imeson Park Boulevard.

A suit filed against the city by Gateway Town Center owner Terranova Corp. will also be dismissed as part of the agreement.

Legislation to support the agreement will be brought before the Jacksonville City Council at their regular meeting Tuesday at 5 p.m.
