'Success Kid' Helps His Dad Raise Money For Kidney Transplant

Remember ‘Success Kid,’ the web photo of the chubby-cheeked Jacksonville toddler on the beach with a fistful of sand and a look on his face of smug satisfaction?

Eight years later, Laney Griner has posted that same photo of her son Sammy on a crowdfunding site to help raise money for a kidney transplant for his dad, 39 year old Justin Griner.

“The original goal for GoFundMe was $75,000, and I thought if we got anywhere close to that, it would be nice,” Griner said. “But that was six days ago, and now I can’t believe it’s at $83,000, and people are still donating. It’s just the most wonderful thing.”

Griner says some people have even volunteered to be kidney donors.

The next step, she says, is for doctors to add her husband’s name to the national organ transplant list.
