Jacksonville Bans Large, Outdoor Donation Bins
Large, often overflowing collection bins for cast-off clothing and household items are being run out of town by the Jacksonville City Council.
A new city ordinance gives the owners of those receptacles until August 1 to haul them away or the city will do it for them.
City Councilman John Crescimbini sits on Jacksonville’s Neighborhood Blight Committee, which recommended the new law. He says people who think the bins are there to benefit local charities couldn’t be more wrong.
“And what I discovered is some of these companies are collecting this stuff, bundling it up in bulk and selling it by the ton and shipping it overseas to third world countries,” he said.
Crescimbini says the city's still working out exactly how the eyesores will be removed.
