The City of Jacksonville reopened Julius Guinyard pool near Downtown last week after closing it three years ago.
The JaxParks Aquatics Department opened Julius Guinyard pool after remodeling the facilities.
JaxParks spokeswoman Pam Roman says the community had been anticipating the pool’s return.
“For the entire summer folks have been coming by saying 'When is it going to be open?'” Roman said. “They’ve seen the construction going on. They’ve been excited about that.”
Roman says renovations include a resurfaced pool and deck, remodeled shower and restroom facilities and new lifeguard chairs.
She says the city now runs 33 outdoor pools.
“And our goal is to keep them maintained and open throughout the summer so that the public has access to a pool regardless of where they live in Duval County,” Roman said. “And being able to reopen Julius Guinyard with the amenities and the ADA accessibility is a plus for us.”
She says since it opened last week, the pool has been filled with activity with people of all ages.
The pool is located on Jefferson Street in the Springfield neighborhood.
