Jacksonville is seeking public input on what to do with its underutilized Skyway monorail system. The first public meeting of a new Skyway committee is set for next week.
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority is forming the committee to examine options with the public’s help.
A recent study presented three equally expensive options:
- Upgrade the nearly 30-year-old system
- Replace much of it altogether
- Or decommission the Skyway
All three come with a price tag of about $60 million in the long term.
The Skyway Advisory Group includes customers, downtown residents, business owners and government officials.
The group’s first public meeting will be Monday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Skyway Operations and Maintenance Building at 725 Leila St. in Riverside.
