Jacksonville Skyway Offers Extra Hours For New Year's, TaxSlayer Bowl

Jacksonville’s free monorail system is extending its hours this weekend in anticipation of big events downtown.

On Monday, Lloyd Daniels was getting off the Skyway at Hemming Park around lunch time. He said he got on at the bus station, just a few blocks from here.

“It’s a hot day, and it’s a blessing to be able to ride from point to point without walking, without jumping off and on other buses and stuff,” he says.

About five or six other people are waiting for trains. But this weekend, JTA expects thousands of riders to use Skyway to watch fireworks on New Year’s or come downtown for the TaxSlayer Bowl on Saturday.

Here are the extra holiday hours. As always, rides are free:

Thursday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve): 6 a.m.- 2 a.m.

Friday Friday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day): 10 a.m.- midnight

Saturday, Jan 2: 9 a.m.- midnight
