The Federal Emergency Management Agency is hiring people to help with Hurricane Irma disaster recovery work in Southeast Georgia.
FEMA and the Georgia Department of Labor will hold a day-long job fair in Brunswick on Monday, December 4.
FEMA spokeswoman Crystal Paulk-Buchanan said they’re looking for Georgia residents with specialized skills.
“We need public assistance site inspectors, people with environmental consulting backgrounds and hazard mitigation.”
Paulk-Buchanan said the jobs are temporary and expected to last from four months to a year — possibly longer — depending on the workload.
“For some people, they may be between jobs, there may be retirees who are interested in doing a little additional work who may have a public works background and this would be a good opportunity for them.”
Plus, she said, their work with FEMA won’t necessarily end when the job in Brunswick is done.
“We hope to be able to bring those folks on to FEMA as part of our reservist program where, when there are disasters in the country and we need people with these special skills that they may be able to go to places other than Georgia in the future,” said Paulk-Buchanan.
The job fair goes from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 4 at the Georgia Labor Department’s Brunswick Career Center, 2517 Tara Lane.
