Kent-Willette Named New Jax Education Commissioner

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown has named Jacksonville University professor Dr. Annemarie Kent-Willette as the city’s new education commissioner.

The announcement was made this morning at the university’s Terry Concert Hall.

Kent-Willette replaces Dr. Donnie Horner, who served for as the city’s first education commissioner for two years. As was the case with Horner, Kent-Willette will not teach during her term as commissioner. She will be paid by the university and receive the required minimum salary of $1 per year from the city.

Brown says Kent-Willette will bring a passion and insight to the job by enhancing communication between schools, parents, higher education institutions, and philanthropists.

Kent-Willette has been a professor at JU since 2001. She received her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of North Florida.
