The Business Prospects Of Jax Shipyards As Khan Eyes Property

Google Earth

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan said this week that he is optimistic he can strike a deal with the city to develop the Shipyards property.

Jaguars president Mark Lamping said Khan is close to presenting a plan for a mixed-use development at the city-owned waterfront property, which has sat vacant for years.

Everything from housing, retail, restaurants and bars, a hotel, a U.S. Navy ship museum, and even an aquarium have been discussed for the area.

Khan considers the development of the Shipyards as a way to underpin his long-term investment in the NFL team and the surrounding sports complex.

But after so many ambitious plans for the waterfront have come and gone over the years with no success, can Shad Khan succeed where others have failed?

Jacksonville Business Journal editor John Burr and Financial News & Daily Record reporter David Chapman joined Melissa Ross to discuss Khan's proposal and the history of the Shipyards property.
