Cover Jacksonville Aims To Expand Insurance Coverage For Northeast Florida Children

Cover Jacksonville

Over 16,000 children are uninsured in Duval County even though they qualify for free or low cost health insurance through a program provided by the State of Florida.

State Representative and new Jacksonville Health Commissioner Mia Jones and Jon Heymann, CEO of the Jacksonville Children's Commission joined Melissa Ross to discuss “Cover Jacksonville” a new initiative to raise awareness about the free or low cost healthcare coverage available for uninsured children in Northeast Florida.

The Florida KidCare program provides coverage for doctor and dental visits, vision and hearing, immunizations, surgical procedures and emergency transportation. The Jacksonville Children’s Commission and the City of Jacksonville received a grant from the National League of Cities to launch the program which will also provide parents with free assistance to apply.
