It’s Florida primary election day. We heard from WJCT’s Ryan Benk from a local voting precinct to see how the day was going. Host Melissa Ross spoke with local officials about how Duval County is battling mosquito-borne viruses. We also heard from GlobalJax about their upcoming fundraiser, “Wines of the World,” and the latest issue of Flamingo Magazine features an interview with Jacksonville musician J.J. Grey. We spoke with publisher Jamie Rich.
Mosquito-borne viruses
Ross spoke with Haley Zachary, surveillance epidemiologist with the Florida Department of Health in Duval County and Marah Clark, an entomologist with Jacksonville Mosquito Control. They discussed what the city and state are doing to combat the West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses. They also encouraged residents to wear proper clothing, use a repellent that includes DEET and to prevent stagnant water from collecting on their property.
Wines of the World
GlobalJax will be holding it’s fourth annual Wines of the World fundraiser Oct. 1. Ross was joined by GlobalJax Executive Director Andrea Hartley and ambassador Odette Struys. The theme of the event will be “Enjoy Your Flight” and will take guest back to the days of glamorous travel, including friendly flight attendants, music and lots of wine.
Flamingo Magazine
The fall issue of Flamingo Magazine will feature an interview with Jacksonville musician J.J. Grey. Publisher Jamie Rich spoke with Ross about the magazine and cultural events.
