West Nile Virus Detected In Duval County

U.S. Centers for Disease Control

A 57-year-old Duval County man has tested positive for West Nile Virus, and there is concern that there are more cases to come.

That's according to the Florida Department of Health, which is advising Duval County residents today of increased mosquito-borne disease activity encouraging residents to take basic precautions to help limit exposure.

Recommendations to avoid contact with mosquitos carrying encephalitis disease are based on a "Drain and Cover" strategy; draining standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying, covering skin with clothing or repellent, and covering doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house.

Officials say surveillance prevention efforts by Duval County Mosquito Control and the health department are ongoing.
