11/11/2016: Media Roundtable; Voices Of The Second Gen; Operation New Uniform; Zack Kaplan

Our Friday Media Roundtable included Florida Times-Union columnist Ron Littlepage, Folio Weekly editor Claire Goforth, Tim Gibbons of the Jacksonville Business Journal and WJCT reporter Ryan Benk. We were also joined by Stacy Goldring and Molly Kushner about the upcoming “Voices of the Second Gen” that explores the experiences of second generation Holocaust survivors. In observance of Veterans Day, we wrapped up our series of segments during Jacksonville’s Week of Valor by hearing from Operation New Uniform founder and Executive Director Justin Justice and local veteran Sheenah Thrasher-Zamora. Jacksonville native and comic book creator Zack Kaplan also joined the show to talk about his new comic “Eclipse.”

Media Roundtable

The Roundtable discussed the election results including the victory of Donald Trump, what it might mean for Jacksonville and future of the Democratic and Republican parties.

Voices Of The Second Gen

“Voices of the Second Gen” explores experiences of the children who grew up with the weight of the Holocaust woven into their lives. This creative multimedia program is the first of its kind. It’s being held Sunday and Monday at the Florida State College Jacksonville’s Wilson Center for Performing Arts. Second generation Holocaust survivors will share their stories on how they were displaced and continued to suffer long after the concentration camps were closed.

Operation New Uniform

Operation New Uniform was formed in response to the growing needs of veterans and their families as they transition from the military. The organization helps veterans get started in businesses with training and help to reach other professional goals. Justice is co-founder of the organization and Thrasher-Zamora is a veteran who went through one of their programs with excellent results.

Zack Kaplan

Zack Kaplan, who grew up in Jacksonville, is debuting his first book, “Eclipse,” a sci-fi thriller about a world where the sunlight will burn you alive. When a killer starts murdering his victims using the rays of the sun, it's up to a disillusioned solar engineer to stop him. He now lives in Los Angeles and recently presented his work at Comic Con in San Diego.
