Tuesday on First Coast Connect, ahead of next week’s She Is Fierce! conference at Everbank Field, we spoke with Jacksonville Jaguars Vice President and chief Legal Officer Megha Parekh (01:21).

Dr. Douglas Green, specialist with the Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Center spoke about an upcoming seminar at WJCT (24:46).

Upon hearing Justin Timberlake has been invited to perform at halftime during Super Bowl LII we spoke with entertainment critic Joey O’Hern (30:02).

Generation W founder Donna Orender and executive directive Atiya Abdelmalik told us about next week’s Generation WOW conference at the University of North Florida (46:00).

Megha Parekh

She’s the brilliant legal mind behind Jacksonville’s NFL franchise, the Jaguars. Parekh was the youngest general counsel in NFL history when Shad Khan hired her in in 2013. Calling Parekh an overachiever is something of an understatement. She finished at Harvard in just three years.

Not only is she responsible for all legal and compliance matters involving the Jaguars, but she’s also got oversight over Khan’s Fulham Club in London. And her legal portfolio includes the new Daily’s Place Amphitheatre as well as tending to Khan’s business interests at the planned  downtown Shipyards development. Parekh is the child of two immigrants from India.

Parekh will be the keynote speaker at the She Is Fierce! Fall meetup coming up November 9th at EverBank Field. Melissa is the local She Is Fierce! chapter leader.

Hearing Loss

The Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute and The Hearing Center are collaborating with WJCT to host a free community medical seminar about hearing loss - next Friday, November 3,  at WJCT Studios. Tickets are free but reservations are requested.

Timberlake Back At Super Bowl

Pop star Justin Timberlake has been announced as the 2018 Super Bowl Halftime Show performer but some people aren’t excited to see him hit the stage in February unless Janet Jackson is there.

Back in 2004, Timberlake was involved in Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during her own Super Bowl Halftime performance. At the end of their duet on stage, the former N’Sync member ripped off a piece on Jackson’s costume, accidentally exposing her breast.

The incident, which became known as “Nipplegate,” was broadcast live to nearly 90 million viewers, and garnered CBS a $500,000 fine from the FCC (which was later thrown out by The Supreme Court).

While Timberlake was ostensibly the one responsible for the gaffe, Jackson received a majority of the scrutiny and criticism from the media and the public.

She was banned from that year’s Grammy awards (which Timberlake got to attend), and her singles and music videos were blacklisted by Viacom, which then owned CBS and MTV, among other entertainment channels.

On Sunday, after the Timberlake Halftime show announcement, the hashtag #JusticeForJanet began trending, with fans calling for Jackson to be invited back to perform.

Generation WOW

Generation WOW represents a chance to invest in and support the future female leaders of the First Coast.

The fifth annual event will be held Wednesday, November 1, on the UNF campus. It’s a way to connect teen girls in grades nine through 11 with women leaders in this area, and it’s free.
