Republicans in Washington struck a tax overhaul deal just before Christmas. It was a major political victory for the GOP Congressional leadership and President Donald Trump.

Supporters say the tax overhaul will spur economic growth but opponents say it was just a Christmas present for corporations and the nation’s most wealthy.

Mihir Desai is an award-winning economist from Harvard University and was in Jacksonville Tuesday to speak at the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville’s Global Business Luncheon.

Desai talked about tax reform and U.S. competitiveness.

First Coast Connect Book Club- Fire and Fury

Journalist Michael Wolff’s new book Fire and Fury has rocked the political world ever since its publication last week.Good luck finding a copy as book stores all around town report the title is on backorder.

The book delves into the dysfunction and drama inside the Trump White House. Although Wolff has been accused in the past of making up quotes and writing exaggerations in other works, he claims he has dozens of hours of tape recordings to backup the incendiary claims in Fire and Fury.

Every so often, a popular and controversial book can rock a culture. This seems to be one of those times.
