2/9/2018: Media Roundtable; STEM And Health Expo

Friday on First Coast Connect our weekly Media Roundtable featured Dan Scanlan from the Florida Times-Union, Folio Weekly editor Claire Goforth and Dave Cawton from the Financial News and Daily Record (01:13).

We heard about this weekend’s STEM and Health Expo and River City Science Academy with coordinator Sarah Niss (46:00).

Our panel discussed the possibility of the city’s privatizing JEA and the reaction so far from the public and City Council members,as well asa new initiative to pull children in Jacksonville and other cities out of poverty, and Visit Jacksonville’s new slogan and ad campaign “Jax: It’s easier here.”     

And on “Only in Florida,” Mount Dora homeowners are facing a fine for their artsy abode. Check out their Starry Night house.

STEM and Health Expo

A free kids’ event featuring dozens of hands-on activities in science, tech, engineering and math is happening at the River City Science Academy this weekend. It’s the school’s sixth annual STEM and Health Expo, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the campus on Beach Boulevard.

Throughout the day,River City Science Academyteachers and students will demonstrate large-scale experiments that pop, grow, explode and entertain. Guests of all ages are welcome.
