3/9/2018: Media Roundtable; St. Augustine St. Patrick's Day; Davis Robertson

Friday on First Coast Connect, our weekly Media Roundtable featured Folio Weekly Editor Claire Goforth, Financial News and Daily Record reporter David Cawton and WJCT contributor Fred Matthews (01:09).

We spoke with Albert Syles, President of Romanza, on St. Augustine’s history around St. Patrick’s Day and Bolshoi Ballet Academy Director Davis Robertson, who is in town for a show Saturday night (46:00).

Media Roundtable

Our panel discussed the Duval County School Board’s voting to no to arm teachers, Mayor Lenny Curry’s apparently launching his reelection campaign with a new video ad, and a lot of contamination clean up that needs to take place before the Jaguars can start to build an entertainment complex on lot J at Everbank Field.

St. Augustine St. Patrick’s Day

According to new research unearthed in Florida, St. Augustine may have well over 100 years on Boston and New York, holding its first St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 1600 and its first parade in 1601.

On Saturday St. Augustine celebrates the 418th anniversary of the first St. Patrick Day Parade in America, followed by the  Augustine Celtic music & Heritage Festival, with nine of the top Celtic bands in the world.

Davis Robertson

Robertson is the founding artistic director of the New York Dance Project and director of Bolshoi Ballet Academy summer intensives. He’s also a graduate of Jacksonville’s Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and former principal dancer with the Joffrey Ballet.

In collaboration with the Florida Ballet Conservatory, Robertson is bringing Boundless to Jacksonville. The show takes the stage Saturday night in the Swisher Theater at Jacksonville University. Students of the conservatory will join the stage with dancers from the New York Dance Project.
