AARP estimates some 10,000 Baby Boomers in America are turning 65 every day.

As Boomers continue to age and transition out of their lifelong careers, many are turning from the corporate arena to making a difference in the nonprofit world.

Wednesday on First Coast Connect we spoke about it with Tim Cost, president of Jacksonville University, Dave Josserand, VP of Development with the Alzheimer’s Association of North/Central Florida, Erin Handy, Field Campaigns Manager for Oceana, and Kevin Gay, CEO of Operation New Hope.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is conducting clinical trials for a breast cancer vaccine. We learned more from Dr. Sara Chumsri, a breast oncologist at Mayo.

It’s a big change this year for the Boy Scouts of America. BSA is now admitting girls to Cub Scouts, in girls-only dens.

The North Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America is also holding a special needs Camporee later this month for special needs kids.

We spoke about it with Patrick Linfors and Michelle Thompson of the North Florida Council of BSA, and mom Candice Young, whose son Gavin *and* daughter Mary are in Cub Scouts.
