1/30/19: Vaping; Groundwork Jacksonville; Space Tragedies
Ashley Lyerly, Director of Advocacy in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi for the American Lung Association; Kristal Fuentes, Health Promotions Specialist for the American Lung Association; and Ann Gipalo, Vice-Chair of Tobacco Free Jacksonville and Health and Safety Chair, Duval County Council PTA, joined us to discuss the report in more detail.
Groundwork Jacksonville has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and NOAA for its McCoys Creek restoration plan.
It will help return the creek to a natural channel design, prevent flooding, improve the waterway's health and water quality, create habitat for wildlife and identify locations for recreational amenities for the community. Kay Ehas, CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville, joined us with more details.
The anniversaries of three American space tragedies - Apollo 1, Challenger, and Columbia- are all being marked this week. Thomas Webber, Science Writer and AP Physics Instructor/Science Department Head at Oakleaf High School in the Clay County School District, discussed these events, and how’s he’s teaching his students about them.
