Hurricane season begins on June, but the first named storm of the season, Andrea, has already formed in the Atlantic.

Andrea isn’t expected to get very strong or pose any threat to Florida, or the East Coast in general.

Florida residents know firsthand the importance of hurricane preparation. That’s why Florida State College at Jacksonville is having a free event Thursday, May 23, called Disaster and Emergency Preparedness: Storm Planning.

Christian Smith, the Regional Chief Development Officer with the American Red Cross, and Tameiko Grant, an instructional program manager at FSCJ, joined First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross to talk about tips to prepare for the Hurricane season.
