Florida has more than 3.5 million no party affiliated voters, or NPAs, which make up some 27 percent of the electorate.
But Florida has a closed primary system. That means that if you are an independent or NPA voter, you don’t have a voice in primary elections. Activists are hoping to change that leading up to next year’s presidential election. Steve Hough, director of Florida Fair and Open Primaries, Inc., joined us for a closer look.
