New data shows the extent of the nation’s opioid crisis and the major role Florida played in it. 

The Washington Post looked at data from the Drug Enforcement Administration. From 2006 to 2012 billions of hydrocodone and oxycodone pills flooded into Florida through clinics known as "pill mills."

While the figures may be new, the takeaway is not: Florida’s loose regulations on pain clinics lured addicts across state lines and helped fuel the national crisis.
