Jacksonville area Congressman Al Lawson (D-FL 5th District) joined us to talk about the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
Lawson also discussed efforts to bring a VA hospital to Jacksonville.
‘Preserve Our Local News’
A union was formed in The Florida Times-Union newsroom after the paper was sold to GateHouse Media. Now Gatehouse is planning to buy Gannett.
Local members of the Times-Union’s union, NewsGuild-CWA, are distributing flyers at noon on Thursday outside of the Times-Union’s newsroom at the Wells-Fargo Center to lay out the union’s concerns.
Times-Union reporters David Bauerlein and Andrew Pantazi joined us to explain what the issues are from the union’s point of view.
Women Of Vision
This month, the Cummer Museum and Gardens is featuring an exhibit of works from the Women of Vision. For 21 years, local women with visual impairments have been meeting each month to create works of art, short stories and poetry.
Libby Heinekien, and Sister Elizabeth Fiorite are with Women of Vision and joined us with more.
Radio Reading Service
Several of our guests Thursday are also listeners to WJCT’s reading service for the blind and visually impaired.
WJCT’s Radio Reading Service has been serving people with low vision since 1993.
It’s based here at the WJCT Studios, where we primarily read The Florida Times-Union to the visually impaired. The Radio Reading Service is also streamed on wjct.org and the WJCT app.
