Florida's Importance To Democrats, Republicans; Elder Abuse; COVID-19

With Jacksonville hosting the Republican National Convention, political pundits have been talking about the importance of Florida as a swing state in the presidential election. But what if what we know about swing voters is wrong?

Some modeling indicates there aren’t as many swing voters as conventional wisdom suggests.

Political scientist Rachel Bitecofer is assistant director of the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA.  She joined us on Monday’s First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross, saying more than anything, this year negative partisanship will drive the fall election.

Elder Abuse      

Monday marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. It's a day to raise awareness about how seniors are often targeted for various scams and forms of abuse.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, that's especially true.

Three Jacksonvlle Beach bars closed over the weekend with each reporting at least one customer who tested positive for coronavirus. Meanwhile the number of Florida COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

That raises the question of what the pandemic might look like in August when the Republican National Convention comes to town. Chad Nielsen, a specialist with UF Health Jacksonville’s Division of Infectious Disease joined us for a look.

Real Estate Keeps Going During COVID-19

One of the industry's that has kept going during the pandemic is real estate.  A check of Zillow.com shows almost 4,900 homes currently for sale in Duval County.
