Phase 3 Reopening; Minimum Wage; ADAPT; Amelia Island Jazz Festival

Florida’s has now been in Phase 3 of it’s reopening plan for just over a week.

We discussed how it’s been going in Northeast Florida with Chad Nielsen, a infection prevention specialist at UF Health Jax, and Scott Schwartz, the chef and owner at El Jefe Tex Mex in Murray Hill.

Fight For Fifteen

When you go to vote in the November election, there will be a number of ballot amendments to consider, such as Amendment 2, which would gradually raise Florida’s minimum wage over a period of five years. We spoke with the Reverend Russell Meyer, President of the Florida Council of Churches, about it. He has worked hard to make a moral case for a $15 dollar an hour minimum wage.

ADAPT: Activating a Resilient Future

Wednesday night, Oct. 7, WJCT is hosting a virtual event called ADAPT: Activating a Resilient Future.  It’s an event to raise awareness on environmental justice.  We received details from WJCT News’ Brendan Rivers, and Sean Lahav of the Northeast Florida Regional Council, who will be moderating it.  

Amelia Island Jazz Festival

The Amelia Island Jazz Festival will still continue, despite the pandemic. However, for the safety of listeners everywhere, the music will remain virtual.  For a preview, we spoke to the festival's artistic director, Les DeMerle.
