The family of a Publix employee who died after contracting coronavirus at work is now suing the Florida company.
We spoke with local employment attorney Tyler White from the Jackson Lewis law firm about the case, as well as other issues related to the pandemic and the workplace.

- One of the items on our list involves fur babies. Animal Care and Protective Services' volunteers are running a Secret Santa for the adoptable pets. Families can “adopt” a pet like they would adopt a child during the holidays, but instead of buying human toys, they buy treats and toys for the dog or cat in the shelter. Jennifer Walter, Division Chief of Animal Care and Protective services spoke with us about it.
- In early September, restaurateurs Sam & Kiley Efron of Taverna fame formulated a plan to both support their staff and give back to the local medical community during the pandemic. Enter Meals for Medical Workers, where for every $10 raised through GoFundMe, the Efrons provide a hand-crafted meal to a Baptist Health employee (plus additional work for their staff).
- Local charity Hope at Hand, which provides therapeutic poetry lessons for at-risk youth populations, is inviting wordsmiths and poets to submit original poems around the concept of convergence. Poems must be a maximum of 20 lines and may not contain profanity. Just submit your poem via email to Sidnie@HopeAtHand.org by December 4.
- The city of Brunswick, Ga., just opened a new outreach center to help homeowners impacted by Hurricane Irma. Brunswick's Homeowner Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program will offer free repairs for homeowners in the 31520 zip code who still have home damage caused by the 2017 storm.
- PBS has announced that it has teamed up with Apple TV to share “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” just like it did with “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” There was originally some doubt the holiday classics would be available free on broadcast television after Apple acquired the rights and the Halloween special did not air on free, over-the-air TV this year.
