On this week’s Friday Media Roundtable, we discussed some of the top stories in Northeast Florida, including:
- Earlier this week, Governor Ron DeSantis announced a delay on Florida’s supply of Pfizer vaccines, but the Moderna vaccine could arrive as early as this weekend, pending FDA approval. Meanwhile, physicians warn that demand for the vaccine outweighs supply and ask for the public’s patience.
- The state suspended the business license of the Gold Rush Inn on Harts Road after a man was found dead near the motel—the latest in a string of multiple homicides and crimes linked to the hotel this year.
- The Duval Democratic Headquarters also received a threatening letter on its door.
- MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, bestowed $4.2 billion to 384 organizations across all 50 states. Three Jacksonville nonprofits, United Way of Northeast Florida, Goodwill Industries of North Florida, and the First Coast YMCA, received $20 million, $10 million, and an undisclosed amount respectively.
- The Jacksonville Aviation Authority announced Thursday that Boeing entered into a 25-year lease agreement at the Cecil Airport. Other major airlines, JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines added more nonstop flights to their routes.
Our guests were:
- WJCT contributor Charles Griggs;
- Dan Scanlan of the Florida Times-Union;
- Radio host Angela Spears of Angela Spears Communications;
- And Tim Gibbons, editor of the Jacksonville Business Journal.
