Super Bowl COVID Repercussions; Operation Tiger Paw; Book Club; 'The Black Church'

Was last weekend's Super Bowl a super spreader event?

After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up a victory against the Chiefs last weekend, thousands of fans crowded the streets in Tampa without a mask.

Closer to home, some people held watch parties or watched the big game in crowded bars.  With so many fans ignoring pleas to socially distance and mask up, there is worry that the number of  COVID cases around the state will rise even more. 

Dr. Mobeen Rathore is co-chair of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee at Baptist Health. He's also the Hospital Epidemiologist and Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Dr. Rathore joined us to share his thoughts on the subject with us.

Operation Tiger Paw

There is a new initiative taking place to restore pride around Edward Waters College, and it’s called Operation Tiger Paw. Tony Brown of the Jacksonville NAACP told us more about it.

My Antonia by Willa Cather is a nostalgic, yet real love letter to America, written with clarity and precision by the Pulitzer Prize winning author. Our book club leader Stacey Goldring will lead a virtual discussion of My Antonia next week, and shared a preview with us.  

Pandemic Blues

While everyone would have liked to leave the pandemic in the rear virew mirror with the close of 2020, that's just not been possibile yet. Our occasional contributor Mike Fayvoe joined us to share his take pandemic fatique.  

The Black Church Documentary Event

WJCT Public Media presents The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song, by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In conjunction with the documentary we have some special programming planned. WJCT’s Circe LeNoble shared the details with us.
