School Name Change Controversy; First Coast Success; Duval Mask Mandate Rescinded, SCAR

The Duval County Public Schools distrist is continuing an intense local discussion about renaming nine public schools. Most of the school names have associations with the Confederacy.

Kimberly Allen is the Executive Director of 904WARD, an organization with a mission to end racism in Jacksonville. She joined to discuss renaming the schools.

First Coast Success

Jacksonville Daily Record  Editor Karen Brune Mathis  spoked with Dr. Bridget Edkin, the JAX Chamber Small Business Leader of the Year. They discussed local success stories surrounding small businesses in Jacksonville during the pandemic. 

County Mask Mandate Expiration

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry decided to let the county’s mask mandate expire this past Friday. The mask mandate was implemented last June. It previously required anyone over the age of 6 to continue wearing a face mask when social distancing wasn't possible.

We spoke with some listeners about their reactions to the decision to discontinue the mask mandate..

Soccer Coalition Against Racism

Jay Golomb of SCAR (Soccer Coalition Against Racism) told us about the program, which uses soccer to promote anti-racism education among local children.
