The CDC says fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear masks in most cases.

The Centers for Disease Control recently announced that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks.

However, masks will still be required in hospitals, public transportation, and some private businesses. A number of other businesses, such as  Publix and Trader Joes, are beginning to lift their mandates.

Chad Neilsen, the Director of Infection and Prevention and Control at UF Health Jacksonville, joined us to discuss all this.

Shots To Save Lives

While more than half of the adults in the US have gotten their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, herd immunity still seems difficult to achieve, given the fact that some individuals are still hesitating to be vaccinated. To help combat peoples’ apprehension about the vaccine, a group of doctors and hospitals have banded together for a campaign, called Our Shot to Save Lives.

Dr. Richard White of Mayo Clinic joined us to discuss the campaign.

Emancipation Day

On May 20, 1865, the Emancipation Proclamation was read in Tallahassee, officially marking the day as Emancipation Day in Florida. To mark the occasion, James Weldon Johnson Park is hosting an inaugural Emancipation Celebration event. It will take place at 11:00 am on May 20, and will be an opportunity for people to both educate and celebrate.

City Councilwoman  Ju'Coby Pittman  and James Weldon Johnson Park Executive Director Liz McCoy  joined us with the details of the event.

Theatre Jacksonville

Theatre Jacksonville is staging its fifth virtual show, The Near Disaster of Jasper and Casper, which is both performed and written by local performer Jason Woods. The virtual performances will run through May 23 and serve as preview for the show, which was accepted to the United Solo Festival in London’s West End, and is set to appear on New York's 42nd Street Theatre Row in the fall.

Theatre Jacksonville's General Manager, and the Director of the show, Michelle Kindy, called in to discuss it.
