There are 25 bands ready to jam out at Springfield’s third PorchFest from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
PorchFest is an annual event that celebrates the historic homes and streets in the neighborhood of Springfield, just north of downtown Jacksonville. PorchFest founder Christina Parrish told the event’s origin story this week on WJCT’s First Coast Connect.
“A group of friends and I were sitting on my front porch talking about ways to bring people into Springfield and one of the friends is from Buffalo, New York, who had heard about a PorchFest there,” she said. “Springfield has so many beautiful porches, we thought it would be the perfect way to introduce people to our neighborhood.”
The headliner bands are Canary in the Coalmine and Katz Downstairz.
The rest of the bands will perform either in Klutho Park or on the porches of the different homes in the area.
It will all come to an end with the Jacksonville folk band Canary in the Coalmine performing its final concert, starting at 6 p.m. in the park.
The event is free and nearly 20 food trucks will be available. Craft beer will be sold throughout the event.
